5 During the last decade, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Art Contest has steadily grown to now hosting more than 1,500 entries from across Texas. With support that includes volunteer efforts and fundraising from the Stock Show’s Guns & Roses Committee and the Junior League of Fort Worth, these youth will compete for $84,000 in cash awards and scholarships in 2023. Entries are now being accepted for the competition which is open to youth between ages 5 and 18. Artists may enter their works that are categorized as either 2-D (paintings, drawings, etc.) or 3-D (sculptures). Individual entries are judged in six age categories. Only high school students may submit 3-D entries. “It’s always exciting this time of year when art entries start coming through the door,” said Stock Show Art Contest Manager, Jordan Simons. “Being the first to receive entries for the upcoming Stock Show is cool and with the synergies created with the Cowboy Artists of America, our amazing volunteers and especially the new financial support for the High School 3-D division, this year’s competition will be our best ever.” With the goal of supporting and encouraging school art programs, a Classroom competition allows art teachers to submit a portfolio of between five and 15 pieces in three Classroom Divisions: Elementary (K to 5th grade); Middle School (grades 6th through 8th) and High School (9th through 12th). Winning classrooms in each division are awarded $5,000 to be used for art supplies. The opportunity to learn from some of the nation’s best western artists will be on the minds of many high school artists as they compete for a spot in an exclusive one-day workshop with members of the Cowboy Artists of America held on January 23 during the 2023 Stock Show. Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and 1st through 4th winners in the High School 2-D Division as well as the High School Classroom Division winners will earn the coveted spots. The prestige, excitement, and especially the financial rewards, associated with the Junior League of Fort Worth’s annual Grand Entry Gala is another reason the youth artists aspire to excel in the competition. A special auction for the Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and 1st through 4th winners’ 2-D works is featured during the gala, providing additional scholarship funds in addition to the awards specified in the contest’s guidelines. Entries can be personally delivered or mailed to the Stock Show offices at: 3400 Burnett-Tandy Dr. – Fort Worth, Texas – 76107. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information can be found at: www.fwssr.com/p/competitions--contests/art-contest or by emailing artcontest@fwssr.com.
