FWSSR September 2024 Newsletter

88 Each year, FWSSR staff evaluate potential improvement to competitions, auctions and other offerings. Exciting changes for the invitational ranch gelding sale, the new Mustang Magic Horses & Horsemen of the World and a new 5D barrel race competition will bring fresh changes for 2025 FWSSR. While the Invitational Ranch Horse Show and Sale has traditionally been Ranching Heritage Weekend’s grand finale Sunday afternoon, the prestigious sale will be moved to Saturday, January 18, where the highly anticipated auction will draw new attention to weekend horse show and sale activities. Immediately following the legendary ranch horse sale which begins at 10 a.m., the FWSSR Heritage Sale, that includes the AQHA Best of the Remuda Sale and the Stock Show’s Select Quarter Horse Sale, will enhance the day’s opportunities to evaluate and purchase horses from some of the industries most noted ranches, breeders and trainers. It will all add to the excitement of Ranching Heritage Weekend presented by Ariat. “Three sales of this magnitude will be amazing,” said Horse Show Director Lauren Murray. “This is a fantastic way to highlight these historic ranches on one of the Show’s most highly attended days, while the public also gets a chance to see how vibrant and important ranch life is to our state.” Murray explained that horses featured in the ranch horse sale are vetted by a committee that meets each Spring. “The ranch horse committee reviews ranches that have expressed interest in participating in the Invitational Ranch Horse Show & Sale and have submitted a background information form. They are reviewed along with ranches that have consigned in the past and we look at what new possibilities there are. The committee tries to keep the invitations limited to true working ranches.” INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR - MUSTANG STYLE For more than a decade, the FWSSR fans have been amazed at the talents displayed by formerly wild horses in its Mustang Magic competition. In 2025, they’ll find even more jaw-dropping performances to bring them to their feet when Mustang Champions, producers of Mustang Magic, presented by AgTrust Farm Credit, bring “Horses & Horsemen of the World,” to the Will Rogers Coliseum floor. Featuring Australian horseman and champion colt starter Dan James, five-time PRCA Dress Act of the Year and Texan Bobby Kerr, Charro Tomas Garcilazo and family of Mexico, as well as British movie horse trainer and actor Ben Atkinson, “Horses & Horsemen of the World,” is set to provide an astounding display of horsemanship. “I guarantee that people who love the beauty and athleticism of horses will absolutely love this show,” said Murray. “All of these horsemen have performed across the world stage and we’re so fortunate to have them coming to Fort Worth in 2025.” ATTENTION BARREL RACERS! Barrel racing will bring the excitement during the final week of the Show as the FWSSR hosts its firstever 5D barrel race February 4 in cooperation with Wild West productions.
