WE LOVE A PARADE One of the greatest of rodeo traditions is the parade and the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo All Western Parade is rooted in history that lives on today. The parade first hit the pavement in 1896 and in 1909, a total of three parades were staged, the first of which included a band of Kiowa and Commanche tribe members led by the infamous chief, Quanah Parker. Show cattle were herded along the street in the second parade, the only time in the parade’s history. Since it’s beginning the parade has been “non-motorized,”mostly due to the rationing of gas and rubber in its early years, and the tradition continues. TCU’s Horned Frog Band became the lead band in 1944 and remains a highlight today. In 1970, Walter Smith, an African American, applied for his group to participate and in their second year, won the “Best Dressed Entry.” Smith later became a member of the parade committee and that group, The Circle L Riding Club,is still a parade favorite. The 2022 edition of the parade will roll through downtown Fort Worth January 15. Reserved seating is available, which includes face painting and other activities in Sundance Square. Ticket sales will end at noon January 13. Prices are: Sundance Square - $25 Convention Center - $15 Tickets must be purchased in advance. No on-site purchases. Tickets purchased after December 31st will be WILL CALL only and MUST be picked up at the Dickies Arena Box Office in advance of the parade. Go to fwssr.com for more info.
