Thus, Stock Show officials were honored when the organization was bestowed the Breakaway Trailblazer Award from the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA). WPRA conferred the award to highlight FWSSR’s commitment to elevating the prestige of breakaway roping in professional rodeo. The award acknowledged the Stock Show’s inclusion of women’s breakaway roping in the 2020 FWSSR PRODEO Tournament and providing equal prize money to the event’s competitors. By including the WPRA sanctioned event, the FWSSR became a crucial stop for the nation’s top breakaway ropers in their yearlong trek to qualify for their first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament was the first major rodeo to include breakaway roping, much to the evident delight of fans and competitors. “It is important for us to continually add new and exciting competitions and activities that broaden spectator appeal and opportunities for competitors,” said Stock Show President and General Manager Brad Barnes. “We’re thrilled to receive this amazing award, and it is our hope that this competition will encourage and inspire women to seek opportunities to enjoy and participate in the western way of life.” Cook Children's Day
