JANUARY 29 —NTHSRA Scholarship Rodeo 10 a.m. Will Rogers Coliseum Almost all of the pros competing each night in Dickies Arena got their start in high school rodeo. Come watch these future stars battle it out for $28,000 in scholarship dollars, as well as coveted buckles and a team championship, thanks to Lone Star Ag Credit. Eight sets of reins — 40 pounds of leather — is what it takes to drive the thundering team of America’s most famous hitch — The Budweiser Clydesdales. The Budweiser Clydesdales will take to Dickies Arena throughout the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo where they will perform precision maneuvers reminiscent of the days when beer deliveries were made by the wagon load. Riding with them will be their Dalmation mascot, representing the role these spotted dogs played as coach dogs because they ran between the wheels of coaches or carriages and were companions to the horses. Since the 1950s, Dalmatians have traveled with the Budweiser Clydesdales hitch, perched atop the wagon proudly seated next to the driver. In between performances, Stock Show visitors can visit these majestic horses at their stalls in the Burnett Building and watch as they prepare to parade to Dickies Arena prior to each performance. Each horse will carry 130 pounds of harness and combined, the wagon, horses and harness weigh more than 12 tons. Now, that’s a heavy load! The Clydesdales will appear in the All Western Parade January 15 and perform at most rodeo performances beginning January 21. Check the schedule at fwssr. com for more information.
