Viva La Stock Show! Take A Deeper Dive Into Texas’s Hispanic Heritage Texas has a strong connection to its Spanish roots and that culture has long been celebrated at the Fort Worth Stock Show. Its popular Best of Mexico Celebración, slated for January 16, and the fun Dia de La Familia, January 23, is just the beginning of what fans can soak in in 2022. After a stellar debut in 2020, the FWSSR Texas Invitational Mariachi Competition will return January 22 showcasing top high school mariachi teams from across the state participating in a unique contest. Teams will compete for a chance at the championship finale composed of the top three finalists. The event drew passionate fans of the musical genre which is widely celebrated across the world and especially here in Texas and Fort Worth. The event is free to the public with Stock Show grounds admission. Rarely seen in the U.S., a Charro Cala clinic January 29 at 6 p.m. will feature Alejandro Goñi Rojo, one of the top horse and Cala trainers from Mexico. The cala is a slide competition much like the maneuver seen in reining horse competitions. The horse is ridden at top speed toward a point at which the rider brings it to a smooth, sliding stop that extends several feet across the arena floor. The winning rider is the one who has the skill to maneuver the longest, straightest slide. This clinic is free to the public with Stock Show grounds admission. Thanks to the law office of Domingo A. Garcia, the Texas Invitational Escaramuza will be joined in 2022 with the Charro Cala on January 30 at 11 a.m. Dating to the Mexican Revolution of 1910, Escaramuza and Charro Cala competitions are part of a traditional Charreada. Elaborate costumes, custom saddles and handcrafted tack add a uniqueness and style that make the Escaramuza and Charro Cala a must-see event. Alejandro Goñi Rojo The Fort Worth Stock Show is celebrating 15 years of its partnership with the Mustang Heritage Foundation in the exclusive production of Mustang Magic, presented by Lone Star Ag Credit. The weekend will feature clinics that demonstrate the versatility and trainability of the American mustang. You can learn how it’s done at the Mustang Showcase Clinics at 10 a.m. daily January 20, 21 and 22. Learn from elite mustang trainers during these educational clinics, which are included in a grounds admissionn. Competition starts January 21, when Mustang Magic Rising Star trainers will amaze as they vie for a chance to compete against the Celebrities on Saturday night. January 22 will bring the best trainers and entertainers to the Coliseum for a final round to showcase the talents of their mustangs through a freestyle routine and compete for $50,000 in cash and prizes. Collegiate ranch horse teams will take on a unique challenge in 2022 when the Bridles & Brains Invitational Collegiate Ranch Horse Competition takes to the Watt Arena February 2. Created in partnership with the American Paint Horse Association and Stock Horse of Texas (SHTX), the competition is designed to test horsemanship and communication skills. Teams will square off in ranch penning, ranch trail, ranch reining and ranch roping. Then, each student’s communication skills will be tested when they take part in public speaking and a mock media interview. Teams from schools across Texas and Arkansas are slated to participate and compete for their share of $7,500 in prize money. Included in grounds admission. First up will be the Heritage Sale January 15 at noon in the John Justin Arena, featuring the AQHA Best of the Remuda Sale. Immediately following will be the 65th Select Breeders Quarter Horse Sale, where you’ll find an outstanding selection of American Quarter Horses to choose from. January 16 will be the highly anticipated Invitational Ranch Horse Show and Sale where 10 outstanding ranches will compete for top ranch horse honors and then put those geldings up for sale immediately following the show.
